(in)SPYR by SPYR Media is a responsive Genesis child theme for personal and professional blogs that comes with three theme styles (Base, Merit, Tribe) and six color options including blue, black, red, yellow and crimson mica. The latter is the theme’s default color scheme.
This theme supports two WordPress menus:
- Primary Navigation Menu – left aligned below the header
- Secondary Navigation Menu – centered in the footer

With the arrival of version 2.0 of the Genesis Framework, the Genesis eNews and Updates, and Genesis Latest Tweets widgets have been recreated as plugins. These, and other plugins optimized for the Genesis Framework, are available from the WordPress Plugin Directory.
The theme set-up documentation includes instructions how to configure the (in)SPYR Subscribe widget for Aweber, MailChimp, Feedburner, and InfusionSoft.
This Genesis child theme serves five widgetized areas:
- Primary Sidebar
- (in)SPYR Header Right
- (in)SPYR Callout Area
- (in)SPYR Subscribe Area
- (in)SPYR Slider Area
The contents of the Header Right area is displayed at the right side of the header, opposite the logo or site title.
The use of the Subscribe, Slider and Callout areas is completely optional.
In case you want to mimic the demo, you simply add:
- the Subcribe widget to the Subscribe Area
- the Flexslider widget to the Slider Area
- a text widget with your text to the Callout Area
When you proceed as mentioned above, the outline of your homepage will look like this:

When you prefer to add a slider to the Callout area instead of to the Slider area, just go ahead – this will workout fine. The (in)SPYR Flexslider is an image slider, which allows you to upload an image, and add a URL as well as an excerpt. In case you rather have a slider display posts or pages, you can install the Genesis Responsive Slider.
The most recent post is displayed in a traditional blog-style, while the remaining posts are presented in a grid-styled view.

The Genesis panel comprehends three pages:

When you have installed the previously mentioned Genesis Responsive Slider, this plugin will ad a page Slider Settings that allows you to configure this slider.
The Genesis Theme Settings page serves dialogue boxes to help you personalize the theme:
- Custom Feeds
- Default Layout
- Comments and Trackbacks
- Content Archives
- Blog Page Template
- Header and Footer Scripts
The Information box displays the version number of the Genesis Framework. Here you can also subscribe to e-mail notifications when updates becomes available.
When you use Feedburner for your feeds, you can enter the custom feed URLs for new posts and comments here at the Custom Feeds.
For the Default Layout you have choice out of a content area with a right sidebar and just a content area. For each individual post and page, you have the ability to alter the page layout setting.
The Navigation options allow you to enable an Extra element at the right side of the Primary Navigation. You can choose from Today’s Date, RSS Feed Links, Search Form and a Twitter Link.
When you like to have Breadcrumbs at the top of the content area, you can check here on what pages these crumbs should be displayed.
The check boxes at the Comments and Trackbacks give you an easy way to customize the visibility of comments and trackbacks on posts and pages.
At the Content Archives you can set your preferences for the blog page listings. You can choose to display the post excerpts or the post content – when applied, until the Read More tag. When you opt for the post content, you can limit the content to a certain number of characters.
Enabling the Featured Image on index pages is a matter of checking the box in front of “Include the Featured Image?”. In addition, you can select your desired dimensions for the Featured Image.
Last but not least, you can set your preferred page navigation within the Content Archives box. You are offered two choices: Previous/Next, and Numeric.
The Blog Page Template section lets you configure what categories will be displayed on the blog. You can select a specific category from the drop-down menu, exclude category IDs, and set the number of posts per page.
The Header and Footer Scripts section serves two text boxes where you can enter your custom scripts for the page headers and footers, like for example Google Analytics.
In addition to the Genesis panel, the theme adds a SPYR Media panel which includes pages regarding (in)SPYR Options and the (in)SPYR Slider.
The (in)SPYR Options page facilitates some of the specific (in)SPYR features:
- Theme Style
- Footer Social Icons
- Miscellaneous Options
For the styling of the theme you can choose from three theme designs and six color options:
- Base – available in gray, blue, and red with light backgrounds
- Merit – a unique and trendy design in a composition of brown and yellow
- Tribe – a dark theme style with yellow and blue color options
The Footer Social Icons let you enter the URLs to your profiles with Twitter,Facebook, and Google+.
Last but not least, the Miscellaneous Options allows you to disable the homepage grid. After disabling the homepage grid, all posts will be displayed int he traditional blog style.
(in)SPYR is a Third Party theme, meaning the theme has been approved by and is available from StudioPress, but it has not been developed by StudioPress.
Please note that you need the Genesis Framework in order to activate and use a Genesis child theme. Purchased separately the Genesis Framework is $59.95.
