Swell by OrganicThemes is a responsive theme for business and portfolio websites that comes with support for Featured Videos, WordPress Post Formats, Gravity Forms, and WooCommerce.
OrganicThemes Swell supports three WordPress menus:
- Fixed Menu – centered above the header, at the top of the screen
- Main Menu – centered below the header
- Social Menu – right aligned in the footer
To build you Social Menu, first create a new Social Menu. Next, add links to that menu with the URLs to your social media profiles. Swell recognizes the commonly used networks, and displays the icon regarding in the footer.
Swell Social Menu supports links to Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus, LinkedIn, GitHub, Dribbble, Foursquare, Pinterest, WordPress.com, YouTube, Vine, Instagram, StackExchange, Email, and your RSS Feed.
Since OrganicThemes supplies its themes as lightweight as possible, the theme installs with just the default WordPress widgets.
Swell comes with support for the WooCommerce plugin. By activating this plugin several additional widgets become available to utilize your online store.
The Swell theme incorporates four widgetized areas:

Swell extends the default WordPress Edit Post screen with two meta boxes; the Featured Video Embed Code box, and a Format section where you set the preferred WordPress Post Format. You can choose from these post formats:
The Theme Options are fully integrated with the WordPress Customizer, and include:
- Site Title, Tagline & Logo
- Header Image
- Background Image
- Home Page
- Page Templates
- Static Front Page
Your first option is to upload an image for the site Logo. Instead of the logo, you can also choose to display the Site Title & Tagline in the page header. Either way, you simply align the logo or site title by clicking the appropriate radio button: Left, Center, or Right Align.
With the Colors option you pick your favorite color for the body background, menu background, link color, link hover color, heading link color, heading link hover color, and the highlight & button color.
The Header Image settings allow you to upload an image of 1800 by 480 pixels for the website’s header.
In case you prefer a background image, you can upload this at the Background Image tab.
You can select your menus at the Navigation entry, comparable to Appearance >> Menus >> Manage Locations.
With the Slideshow settings, you configure the transitions interval and choose your transition style – fade or slide – regarding the slideshow template.
Here you can also compose your static Home Page, by selecting three pages. The content of these pages will be displayed as the left, middle and right column, directly below the content you have added to the Home Page template with the editor.
The Portfolio options within the Page Templates let you choose between a one, two or three column layout.
At the Layout options, you can disable the responsive layout as well as the full width background image. In addition, you can show or hide author links, blog date & comment links, and featured images.
Last but not least, you can customize the footer text. This text will replace the “Swell Theme from Organic Themes” as included in the demo.
The Widgets section lets you add your preferred widgets to the Footer Widgets. The Footer Widgets displays up to four widgets next to each other.
With the Static Front Page settings, you can select your page content for the frontpage, and set the page template for your blog posts.
As mentioned above, the content of the pages selected within the Page Templates will be displayed as the Left, Middle and Right column below the content of the Home Page.
With Organic Themes, you can choose from three pricing plans .
The price stated below of $69 is regarding a single theme license of Organic Themes Swell.
Another option is the Developer Pack at $249, which includes all current themes as well as any new theme released during your membership.
The Single Theme and Developer Pack both include the layered Photoshop (PSD) files, as well one year of theme updates and support.
After the first year, you can opt for a subscription plan at the rate of the purchased product. Such a plan entitles you to another year of updates and support.
Another option with Organic Themes is Instant Setup. The Instant Setup package includes the theme, auto WordPress installation, auto theme activation, and fully managed WordPress hosting for only $29 a month.
Please note that $29 is a very common fee for managed hosting alone, so practically you get the theme for free.
